What Customers Say About Coby Electronics TF-DVD8501 8.5-Inch Slim Portable DVD Player with Swivel Screen:

I got this for my, then 4 year old son, who is now 6 and he still has it. The sound is good and the swivel feature gives you options to attach it to the back of a seat so it can be off the lap. We use it mainly for long distance trips and sometimes he'll use it at home to watch a movie by himself. The controls are easy to use, I taught him how to work it when he was 4 and he never had a problem with it. The picture quality is really good, adequate for a coby. I wouldn't buy a child a Sony or any other expensive brand but this Coby hasn't given me a reason to even want to.

Company makes cheap products that wont last much. I had this for a year. But it broke on us after 10 months of use. This tells it all. Strange but after I wrote this review the unit started to work again. You have to think what you get for the price.

I am determined now I will buy brandname from now on. It is not perfect but does the job. It is another waste for the planet. Cheap product that last short time. I will see the warranty conditions now.Well this and other coby products have 90 days warranty. DVD player from sony is 150 usd and that should last more than a year I hope.

So maybe it does the job for the money.

When we first got this dvd player we were really happy with how it worked. But there is nothing more maddening and disappointing than shoddily built gadgets. The swivel screen, which closes to make the buttons inaccessible to button-crazed two-year-old fingers, was great. The picture was big and bright and the battery worked better than expected and the whole thing was pretty light and easy to take on the road. And the speed with which this dvd player kicked the bucket is astounding. I would strongly discourage someone from buying this dvd player unless they are fully prepared to buy another soon thereafter.

All sorts of accessories are included- compatible in the car- makes road trips with the kids bearable.

It works fine as a dvd player if hooked up to the television but it can no longer be used as a portable dvd player. I bought the coby dvd player and loved it at first but after only using it for a short while, the picture no longer worked. There is sound, but the screen remains blank. I was extremely disappointed. Unfortunately, it broke shortly after the warranty period ended so I am stuck with it.
